Fishing the Gulf of Mexico off South Padre Island is one of the most memorable angling experiences you can have. These warm Gulf waters are teeming with prized species, including Marlin, Red Snapper, Vermilion Snapper, Lane Snapper, Amberjack, Cobia (Ling), Mahi-Mahi, Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, Kingfish, Bonita, Wahoo, and more—depending on the season.

State Water Deep Sea Fishing

When fishing within 9 nautical miles of the Texas coast, anglers are in state waters and may keep up to 4 Red Snapper per person during the season. Many of our trips target the RGV Reef, a massive artificial reef located about 12 miles north of the South Padre Island jetties. Covering 1,650 acres, it is the largest reef off the Texas coast and continues to grow with thousands of tons of recycled concrete structures that create habitat for marine life.

The reef not only attracts large sport fish but also helps increase the survival of juvenile Red Snapper by an estimated 240,000 fish each year.

Federal Waters Deep Sea Fishing

When traveling beyond 9 nautical miles offshore, anglers enter federal waters where the Red Snapper limit is 2 fish per person during the federal season. These trips can include offshore trolling, targeting species such as Wahoo, Sailfish, Marlin, Tuna, and Mahi-Mahi.

Murf Dog Charters provides everything you need to fish with; rod, reel, and all the bait and tackle. You may bring your own gear, but we will not be responsible for it. Bring your own food, drinks, and coolers. Alcohol is allowed. Please no glass containers. All persons fishing, ages 17 and older are required to have a valid Texas SaltWater Fishing License.
